James Perez was a character appearing in the BBC One adaptation of Ann Cleeves's Shetland. The character of James Perez was portrayed by Bill Paterson in the Second series, and by Benny Young in the Sixth series.
He is DI Jimmy Perez's father. He used to be a lay preacher and has a patriarchal position in the Fair Isle community. In the opening episode of the Sixth series, we learn that James' wife Mary has died and that James is suffering from memory loss due to Alzheimer's disease.
